Amber & Sammy firmly believe in giving back to the community we serve. We are fortunate to work in a career we love and have made the most of our many opportunities. Our causes are near and dear to our hearts and are generally intended to give opportunities to others. We give a portion of every commission in honor of our clients to organizations listed below.

Safe Shores – The D.C. Children’s Advocacy Center

The details: The DC Children’s Advocacy Center’s mission is to provide intervention, hope and healing to children and families affected by abuse, trauma and violence in the District of Columbia, and to prevent child abuse through education and training. Using a team approach and working in close partnership with other District of Columbia public and private agencies, Safe Shores ensures a coordinated, comprehensive and compassionate response to child victims of sexual and physical abuse in the District of Columbia.

Safe Shores boys_hispanicserves over 800 children and families annually through its three direct service programs: Victim Services, Forensic Services, and Clinical Services. Victims Services provides food, clothing, emergency financial assistance, supervision to children awaiting interviews and therapy, and victim advocacy. Forensic Services coordinates and conducts forensic interviews with child victims and witnesses on behalf of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) member agencies. Clinical Services provides mental health assessments and short- and long-term therapy treatment to victims of abuse and their caregivers and family members. Safe Shores also provides a nationally-evaluated, evidence-based child sexual abuse prevention training, often free of charge, to various community members, including parents, advocates, youth-serving organization, and businesses in the DC area.

How we’re involved: Sammy is an ambassador for Safe Shores – his role is to educate people on the organization so they can help prevent child abuse in our community. In addition, he gives a portion of every commission to provide therapy sessions to abused children in the care of Safe Shores.

NFTE – Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship

The Mission: The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship’s mission is to provide programs that inspire young people from low-income communities to stay in school, to recognize business opportunities and to plan for successful futures.

photoBackground: Founded in New York City in 1987 by Steve Mariotti, a former entrepreneur turned high school math teacher in the South Bronx, NFTE began as a program to prevent dropouts and improve academic performance among students who were at risk of failing or quitting school.

Combining his business background with his desire to teach at-risk students, Steve discovered that when young people from low-income communities are given the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship, their innate “street smarts” can easily develop into “academic smarts” and “business smarts.” Through entrepreneurship, young people discover that what they are learning in the classroom is relevant to the real world.

To date, NFTE has worked with nearly 450,000 young people from low-income communities in programs across the U.S. and around the world.

How we’re involved: Amber is a member of the Young Ambassador’s Council for NFTE, a “junior board” made up of young professionals who are passionate about advancing NFTE’s cause and supporting the students that NFTE reaches. She also heads up NFTEams, the in-class volunteer network of DC professionals who desire to get in the classroom and work with students one-on-one. Amber visits Bladensburg High School with her own NFTEam once a month and oversees 5 other NFTEams. She also coaches the students on their business plans and helps them prepare for the Business Plan Competitions. Amber has been volunteering with NFTE for over 5 years.
